Dog wedding costs owner £20,000

Now don’t get me wrong. Anyone who knows me knows i adore my 2 dogs but….this lady in my eyes has lost the plot! But of course thats only my opinion, you may think differently

THEY say op-paw-sites attract... so when pampered pooch Lola met ugly mutt Mugly, it was a match made in doggy heaven.

Lola’s owner, Louise Harris, was determined to give her little princess the wedding day of her dreams. And the barking-mad pet lover forked out an astonishing £20,000 on a deluxe ceremony attended by 80 guests.

Yorkshire terrier Lola wore a £1,000 designer wedding dress and Mugly raised the woof by wearing a tuxedo and top hat.

Louise, who thinks she has spent at least £100,000 on her three dogs in the past six years, says: “The day was perfect from start to finish and Lola loved being the centre of attention. My dogs are my pride and joy so nothing is too good for them. I enjoy spoiling them. It makes me happy.

“Lola has transformed my life and makes me so much happier, so this was my way of thanking her.”

Louise – who owns a dog boutique – ran an online competition last year to find a husband for six-year-old Lola and received hundreds of entries. To her surprise Lola’s favourite was Mugly, a hairless Chinese crested who holds the title of the UK’s ugliest dog and is owned by mum-of-four Bev Nicholson, 47, of Peterborough, Cambs.

Louise, 32, says: “I didn’t think Lola would like him. She is a diva and loves her clothes and jewellery so I thought she’d go for a dog more like her.

“But they had a lot of fun so I thought Mugly was the perfect future husband.” Louise took three months to organise the wedding, which was staged in a marquee in the grounds of a mansion in Bradwell-on-Sea, Essex.

And the dog lover, from nearby Chelmsford, spent £1,350 on jewellery for the big day, £1,000 on a dog creche and £400 on security.

She owns two other Yorkshire terriers – Lulu, who was a bridesmaid, and Larry, who was a page boy.

Louise’s spending on them has included £26,000 on clothes, collars and harnesses, £14,500 on massages, £2,500 on hair accessories and more than £6,000 on beds which have the dogs’ initials in gold leaf.

After Lola and Mugly were pronounced mutt and wife, the human guests were treated to a luxury buffet and a 6ft chocolate fountain.

Louise says: “Lola looked so beautiful – like a little glitter ball. Mugly looked fantastic and he was the perfect groom. It was an emotional day.”

A Day at the Seaside

Yesterday we decided we needed to get out! So nipped over to Cleethorpes. We decided on this location as they have a dog friendly beach and Molly & Bertie love to run and dig and swim.

On the bit of beach where dogs aren’t welcome, the donkeys were stood waiting to take children for a ride but didn’t look too enthralled.

Cleethorpes has something for every member of the family, there’s lovely gardens to sit and ponder in and cafe’s galore.

Molly & Bertie had a wonderful time running after other dogs and barking, but soon got tired of that and dived into the sea.

They weren’t alone on the doggy beach as a lady on a horse galloped past.

after all the fun we went for a ice cream, well we never had a ice cream but the mutts shared one, thought they didn’t do much with it except the odd lick.

After all the exercise it was time to go home but not until The dogs sat and reflected on what a grand day they’d had.

Tuesday trundle in the Tyneside countryside

Even though the rain poured down today, we decided to take the dogs out for a lovely long run in the countryside. I love been out in the rain, I love the smell of it.It was mild too at 15 degrees.

We decided to do a route we’d never done before and followed the “Public Footpath” signs through a new housing development!! We battled through mud, mud and even more mud but boy was it fun!!!.

Molly & Bertie were covered in the stuff but didn’t complain. As we got past the building site we discovered wonderful countryside and a proper public footpath. The dogs were let off their leads and trotted around sniffing and having fun.

We saw some swans on a lake which we never knew existed, they looked quite happy swimming around with their baby and the gulls too.

There were also lots of berries on the trees, all the red looked stunning as did the fallen leaves all soggy by now with the rain we were having.

and we even spotted a deer which stood still until I photographed it, unfortunately it was a bit too far away but can be seen in the centre of the picture looking at me before it sprung off to do more exploring.
Of course, been so near to Newcastle airport I had to photograph some holidaymakers on their way to find some sun.
We walked just over 5 miles in all and enjoyed every bit of it.. On getting home though Molly & Bertie needed bathing as they were filthy.. Luckily for us they don’t mind the odd bath and are now cuddled up together dreaming of their wonderful walkies.

Wednesdays Witterings

I'm sat on the sofa at Dave's, with all the windows open and a lovely breeze blowing in.. also an added bonus is the smell of the chocolate factory blowing this way.

It's such a magnificent smell kind of chocolate and toffee mixed, i wish i could bottle this smell, its one that makes me say "Mmmmmmmmmm"

We're trying to decide whether to go and watch Newcastle Utd play on Saturday at St James' Park. The dogs will be away this weekend so we don't have to worry about them been home alone and barking the house down. I think it sounds like a plan, a full sporting weekend as we're going up to Scotland on Sunday to watch the BTCC at Knockhill. Who knows if we get to the football too we could be on television all weekend.

Last weekend we had a day at the beach, packed a picnic and the quick erect tent ( ooo err missis) its one you undo and throw and voila its up and ready to climb in.

The dogs had a great time swimming and running. Molly at one point decided to run into the sea for her ball at the same time as a wave came!! she loved it been underwater but wasn't too happy at us 2 laughing at her, so she grabbed her ball and took it to the tent. She was like a kid sulking.



On the way home, we drove on the coast road and came upon the annual kite festival at Whitley Bay, the site of all those kites was ever so colourful.






And now i can't get this song out of my head!!!!

As some of you may be aware, i have another blog which i'm just messing about with. Its all on my family history. I've been tracing for 21 years now and every now and again i decide to go back to it. I decided to blog bits as, you never know, some of my readers may well know someone with the same name's i'm searching as my family are well travelled.

Wagg Foods create special doggie ice cream

I've just seen this on the local news...can't wait for Molly 7 Bertie to get their gnashers round some

"LUCKY pups have got a tasty treat when it comes to keeping cool this summer after a North company created a range of special doggie ice cream.

The frozen yoghurt treats come in three flavours, Panting Peanut Mutter, Oaty Pawfection and Chase Your Tail Cheesecake.

The Frost and Hound desserts have been developed by pet nutritionists at pet food company Wagg Foods, based in Topcliffe, North Yorkshire.

They are made from natural frozen yoghurt which contains good bacteria to help digestion, as well as yucca extract to help reduce the unpleasant odours from flatulence.

Also hidden in the ice cream are dog biscuits.

The products are still in the development stage and are being tried out by some pets.

Creators hope to have them on the shelves in time for next summer and aim to sell them in pet shops and supermarkets. The price has not yet been decided.

Tom Page, sales and marketing director at Wagg, said: “Brits are well known for being a nation of dog lovers . . . with their pets often becoming one of the family.

“Because of this we often treat them the same as our kids, although the titbits we give them aren’t always healthy or safe for dogs.

“We wanted to develop a dog-friendly icy treat which owners could feel confident would help cool down their pet and still be healthy - meaning dog and owner could both enjoy everyone’s favourite summer pleasure together.”

Nicola Purcell, whose dog Lawrence was one of the first to try the ice cream, said: “I love ice cream and Lawrence will always pester me and ask to lick out the tub, he won’t stop until he gets his way.

“This is the perfect solution to a hassle free night in front of the TV . . . I can have my treats and Lawrence can have his.”"

A morning at the beach

As it was such a lovely warm sunny morning, we took the dogs down to the beach for a play and a swim. It’s their favourite thing to do, they can run forever on the beach we go to.


I took off my flip flops as soon as we got to the sand dunes and felt the sand running through my toes all warm and soft. Dave on the other hand decided he’d wear his wellie boots! Each to there own hahaha




When Molly & Bertie had had enough of swimming in the sea they came to sit with us 2 and watch the world go by.




The beach is on the flight path to Newcastle airport so plenty of planes fly past, quite low!






Every now and again the dogs trotted off to play with other dogs or just to have a wander into the sea for another swim. In all we had a lovely time.

What a wonderful week

Eeeeeekkk. I’ve been so busy, I forgot to blog!!

Last Sunday we were at Oulton Park for the British Touring Car Championships, and what a glorious hot summers day it was. Luckily I had thought in advance and decided to freeze some bottled water so it would be nice and cool for us to drink. Unfortunately at 11am it was still frozen so we had to drink the dribbles hahaha.We both woke on Monday morning very sun burnt.. Dave had legs like crispy bacon, and i had very sexy white circles round my eyes, where my sunglasses had been.






We met up with some of Dave’s friends from his car club and had a giggle with them too.



On Monday we picked up Bertie & Molly from the kennels and took them to The Humber Bridge Park where they had a 3 hour run round the woods and a lovely long swim in the lake.







On Thursday I had an appointment in the town and could really have done with not having to go but unfortunately I had to. I was having one of my dizzy days!! As we walked along the street I started veering right as the dizziness was making me go that way.. Weird feeling but I’m kind of getting used to it, although when I’m like this I never normally venture outside of my home.


This coming Sunday were going to the Performance Vauxhall Show
at Santa Pod. We’ve never been before and are really looking forward to it, even though the weather isn’t going to be too good we’ll catch up with some of last weeks friends and no doubt be giggling from us meeting up with them at about 5am!!

May Day Fun

Well the next door neighbours have had the builders in all week and drove us mad with their banging and drilling.. Is it really possible for a builder to drill holes in the same spot for 3 days? Then hammer the same spot for 3 days too? Anyway, enough was enough by 10am so we went out.

Dave wanted to have a nosey in Halfords for some paint for his brake callipers but unfortunately they had one colour and it wasn’t right.

We then went to South Shields and had a fish and chip lunch from Colmans
We took them to the sea front and they were absolutely gorgeous.


After lunch we hopped over the wall to the beach and let Molly & Bertie run and have fun. Molly took a shining to the seagulls and decided she should chase them away, where as Bertie was quite content sleeping on the sand.

The dogs then decided they’d like a swim in the sea so who were we to stop their fun? Molly set off doing her thing and if we hadn’t have shouted for her to come back, she’d have been in Norway!!

After their swim we had a lovely long walk and I found this bin…..

Erm.. I do pick up my dogs poo but this sign made me think… Do people pick up dog poo by hand and not bag it?? Yeuuukkkkk!! hahaha

Need for Speed

Late on Thursday afternoon, we arrived back in Hull. We left Newcastle in glorious sunshine and as we hit the M62 it dropped 7 degrees in temperature! Also it was really misty too.. Typical Hull.
We decided we’d go to the Speedway in Scunthorpe on Friday evening,to watch the Scunthorpe Scorpions race against the Birmingham Bombers. Its only about ½ an hour away. We stopped off at a friends house and he came along too. We laughed all night at almost anything! We needed to do something as, although we were all well wrapped up, it was absolutely freezing. Oh and Scunthorpe won 53-40


Today we took Molly & Bertie to the kennels for the weekend, we call it their hotel. They have lots of fun there, barking at all the other dogs and getting spoilt by the kennel maids. As we handed them over to Laura, they trotted off and never even looked back!!
On the way to the kennels, we dropped in at The Hull Animal Welfare Trust

Both Molly & Bertie are rescue dogs and this is where they came from so we thought we’d let the staff see how well they both are. Its 3 years in September since I rescued Bertie and next month we’ll have had Molly for a year.


We had a look around the kennels and had a stroke of the dogs wanting a home.
While I was chatting to one of the volunteers, I noticed Dave on his knees talking to a German Shepherd called Benson.
Benson is a year old and is gorgeous. Here’s what they say about him





"Benson lived in rented accommodation until the landlord found out. In the past, probably when he was a young dog, he was attacked by another dog and his face was torn. The vet stitched him up but now one side of his face in slightly lop-sided. This doesn't distract from his good looks. The photo shows his 'good side' "




He has the most gorgeous eyes too and is so affectionate. As myself and the volunteer started to go outside, Dave started to follow us, he said if he stayed any longer Benson would be coming with us. I’ve honestly never seen Dave’s eyes go glassy before. It really touched me. Unfortunately we don’t have the room for a large dog as well as our 2. Here’s hoping Benson finds a loving owner.


After dropping Molly & Bertie off at the kennels, we came home and I did the sandwiches and things, ready for tomorrow. Then I had a bit of a sleep, I had hoped to have more than an hour but it just wasn’t meant to be.


We’re setting off at 2.30 in the morning, to head down to Brands Hatch for the BTCC racing. Dave is a special guest along with about 80 or so other VXR car owners who we’re meeting at various motorway service stations on the way.

Should be quite a sight, all those VXR’s convoying down there.

Bertie & Molly

I can’t believe that I’ve been waffling on here about absolutely nothing, and I’ve not mentioned Bertie & Molly!!
They’re both rescue dogs from http://www.hullanimalwelfare.com/

Bertie is a cross Jack Russel/Labrador. He’s a short legged chunky little fella with a heart of gold. I rescued him in 2006, and he looked after me all the way through my chemotherapy.. He brought me his toys, gave me kisses and cuddles and laid with me on my bed when I was having bad days.
He’s about 6 or 7 years old but as he was rescued they weren’t too sure of his age.
Bertie had been found in a small village on the outskirts of Hull and had been taken to the shelter in the hope that his owners would go for him…they never, but I did and I love him to bits



In May last year Dave and Myself had a wander round the shelter and fell in love with Molly. She’s a tri coloured Jack Russel and about 18 months to a year old.
She was found wandering the streets with her sister and taken to the shelter.
Apparantly her and her sisters owners had 2 children and they had a dog each.. They decided that because Molly and her sister were fighting ( as dogs do in play fights) they’d throw them onto the streets as they didn’t want them anymore.
Molly’s sister was re-homed first and 2 weeks later Molly came home with us



Both Bertie & Molly love each other to bits… it’s a match made in heaven. They love to go to the seaside and run for miles on the beach and up and down in the dunes. Swimming is a favourite too.
Chasing balls and sticks is the best in their eyes.
As soon as we put our coats on, they know they’re going for a car ride and get very excited and are in the car as soon as the door’s open.
