The Blaydon Races

Thought i'd share this very popular Geordie song with you all.. A Geordie, for those who don't know, is the name given to someone from Newcastle upon Tyne... My other half is a Geordie and speaks like this!!

Its about the Blaydon Races which was a running race back in the 1800's in the small town of Blaydon just outside of Newcastle. The song is about having a few beers in Newcastle and then getting the bus to Blaydon to watch the races

Silly Moo!

This was in the local evening paper... it happened not far from Dave's house! A DRIVER took a wrong turn down a train track and came face-to-face with a Metro train.
The 40-year-old woman had driven on to the track at Fawdon in Newcastle and travelled hundreds of metres before her vehicle broke down as a train approached.
Her Mercedes was found on the tracks between Wansbeck and Fawdon stations and all trains had to be stopped as police and Nexus staff went to the scene.
The incident happened at around 11pm last night.
Police arrested the woman, who is believed to have been drinking, while it took three hours to get the vehicle out of the danger zone.
Nexus had to put on a taxi service for passengers travelling between Kingston Park and Regent Centre while the recovery work went on.
The driver is being questioned today and is helping police with their inquiries.
A Nexus spokesman said: “There was a police incident last night when a car was driven on to the railway, east of Fawdon level crossing.
“The driver of an approaching train travelling towards the airport saw the car and brought his train to a stop under normal braking more than 50 metres from the vehicle.

“The service was suspended for the rest of the evening between Regent Centre and Kingston Park, while a train continued to run between the airport and Kingston Park. We arranged taxis to get our passengers safely home.
“Engineers worked through the night to help remove the car and ensure the track and overhead lines were safe.
“Services started as normal this morning.”
A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: “The woman drove on to the tracks and a Metro driver saw her.
“He was travelling slow so he could stop.
“We had to stop the trains and she was arrested.
“Then we had to remove the vehicle from the track.
“It happened between Fawdon and Wansbeck stations and Nexus had to put on an alternative service for people travelling on the Metro in that area.
“It could have been potentially horrendous.”

Midweek Musings

Last night i had the best nights sleep i've had in weeks... i took 2 sleeping pills at about 11.30pm and didn't wake up until 12.00 noon!!

I think Dave thought i'd died haha. I felt absolutely brilliant today. We took the dogs for a walk and we walked just over a mile.

I had a lovely email too from a friend who has just moved in with her boyfriend. So happy for her, they make a great couple and i told them this before they were even together!
She used to be with someone who i also loved to bits... And he was with someone i loved to bits too, but both couples split up and these 2 got together.
He plays ice hockey and used to play for my team. It was great to hear from them both and also that they've invited us both to go and stay with them too.

I really need to go and watch him play again just so he can hear my dulcit tones as i shout for him ;-) he misses that hahahaha. oh and i need him to sign a hockey jersey i have of his too.

Oooo almost forgot. I went to get weighed last night at Slimming World, i couldn't stay as i was going out but as i got on the scales i had good news.... I lost 1 1/2lb last week... thats 1 stone since the 7th January.... Janice is going to give me my award next week in class as she wants everyone to know.

After getting the good news i drove us both to the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle to Rob Wilson's testimonial. what a great night, even if it was meant to start at 7.15 and didn't start til about 8.. The night was meant to be a fun night and it sure was with Dave Simms, he of Sheffield Steelers, on the microphone!

The night finally ended about 10pm for us but some fans and the players were off to a bar in the town centre for a party. Bet there were a few sore heads this morning.. Here's hoping Newcastle Vipers players have sobered up for tonight as they play Manchester Phoenix.

Snow Fun

I woke at 6am today, let Bertie out to have a wee, Molly stayed warm in her bed,and the weather was fine and clear. By 9am the snow had started and its never stopped since. Yerrrrrrrrr.
As I’ve mentioned before. I love snow but when it came to the UK last week, we only had it for 1 day in the North East.
Today, was a bonus as the weather lady on television last night said we’d have another fine sunny day.

Anyway, We got all wrapped up and took the dogs out for a walk. I have no idea what Molly was on today but she developed a new thing..

Putting her head in the snow and kind of walking on her head!! Odd dog. Bertie enjoyed running and barking to tell Molly to wait for him.

Newcastle Vipers have a home game this evening against Cardiff Devils.. Not sure if its on or not but I’m staying home, all tucked up with the dogs and watching telly…Dave can tell me the outcome when he gets home and I’ll have the kettle on ready for his hot mug of coffee as he’ll be freezing when he gets home.

Newcastle upon Tyne & Gateshead

Well I went to the hairdressers yesterday and had all the dead ends chopped off, it looks a lot better now there’s no frizz at the ends. Also the colour seems to be lighter now, Maxine, my hairdresser, said that it will come lighter after each wash and its fine for me to put a brighter toner on if I want to and my hair won’t go green or fall out. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy.
So next week I could well be a different colour, photo’s will be available haha.


Today we took the dogs for a walk along Newcastle/Gateshead Quayside.
It’s a really nice walk along the River Tyne. On a Sunday there’s a small craft market which I love looking round. There’s homemade jewellery, hand painted pictures, handmade bags & purses and plenty of other goodies too.
I’ve taken a few photographs of our walk. We were originally going there to watch The Rubber Duck Race but unfortunately it had been cancelled. Shame really as I was looking forward to this bizarre event.

Dave is from the North East of England, From a city called Newcastle upon Tyne. There accent is known as "Geordie". Here's how they speak, i have trouble at times!!
